Slight Glimmer of Hope

“There’s  a huge cost in being bipartisan, a tradition started by Newt Gingrich when he  took over the House in 1994 and has continued forward, that you dare not vote  against the Republican Party even if you’re voting against your own initiatives  and your own interests.” – Gwen Moore

A trend that has continued, hopefully peaking in 2010. We saw a slight glimmer of hope last week when Jeff Garlin thanked Barack Obama for the support the administration showed to those in New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the area. Oh, I’m sorry. I meant to write Chris Christie. Honest mistake. Jeff is much thinner and quite a bit less angry. Even so, are we turning the page to a society that can focus less on he said she said, and one that is working together for the common good of one of the greatest nations today?

Tomorrow the polls open at 6:00 AM locally. When I pull into the station, I will be voting against the majority at that particular station. However, I will not be berating everyone that comes out and, in turn, I hope they give me the same pleasantries. Regardless of how you are voting, please do everyone a favor and leave it at that. A private moment, between you and a machine. HAL and Dave in perfect harmony.

Vote with your heart tomorrow. Don’t vote because talking heads are scaring you with doomsday scenarios. First off, if you believe in those, you may as well stay home tomorrow as the Mayans were too lazy to create another calendar. America is resilient. We have survived civil war, class war, civil liberty atrocities, a great depression, a great recession, a great war and another world war. The latest war we are fighting, will be fought hard and when it is all said and done, the American people will rise up and defeat the faceless enemy.

Such is the way of the world
You can never know
Just where to put all your faith
And how will it grow

Gonna rise up
Burning back holes in dark memories
Gonna rise up
Turning mistakes into gold

Such is the passage of time
Too fast to fold
And suddenly swallowed by signs
Low and behold

Gonna rise up
Find my direction magnetically
Gonna rise up
Throw down my ace in the hole
Eddie Vedder – Rise

Regardless of party affiliation. Regardless of race. Regardless of age. Regardless of income. Regardless of education. Regardless of occupation. Regardless of gender. Regardless of sex. Regardless of sexuality. Regardless of ability. Regardless of history. Go to the polls. Give your vote. Note because you have to, but because you are free to. We have a voice in America. Loud or soft-spoken, everyone has a voice. Speak up and we can continue to build on the progress of the last four years.

Please to enjoy.
