Just Because

Just Because

“There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.” – Aldous Huxley

Just Because

I once told a man
that I am
more than I was
that I am
just because.

That man looked at me
and told me
that you don’t have to
impress me
just because.

Just because
people believe normality
is something that people
believe it should be,
doesn’t mean that we
should believe these things,
you see?

Just because
society dictates society
doesn’t mean
that you can’t be
who you need to be
or whom you believe you are to be.

That man looked at me
and told me
that I don’t have to
impress him –
rather I should look through
the mirror
and impress him,
because he is the one that truly matters.

Working harder to impress yourself
rather than impressing others
is harder.

But, it’s the work that makes
the hard work resonate.

You are the work.

Just because
your mirror might be foggy,
doesn’t mean you can’t
wipe away the cloudiness
and impress yourself.
