The Flavor of Fear

The Flavor of Fear

“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.” – H.P. Lovecraft

The Flavor of Fear

I remember this smell,
a smell that I could taste.
The flavor of fear.

It swam across my tongue
as the odorous feeling
covered the insides of my mouth.

I choked on the fear
and my eyes began to water
as it trickled down my throat.

Fear is earthy.
Fear is salty.
Fear is everywhere.

I drank a glass of water to
remove the fear.
To clean the insides.

Water is everything.
Water is life.
Water is pure.
