The Fall of the Whispers

The Fall of the Whispers

“In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.” – Albert Camus

The Fall of the Whispers

The whispers of a thousand lost souls
can be found screaming through the breeze.
The trees shudder from the secrets
whispered in their leaves.

The
deepest
darkest
dirtiest
dreams that anyone has ever had,
ages the leaves and makes them sad.

They fall to the ground in shame.
Rotting and decaying
on the moist lawn,
the leaves glimmer at the break of dawn.

The screams of a thousand lost souls
whip and bite the whitened branches.
The voices are frozen in the glistening glass.
The mother laughs as she whistles
drowning the whispers in a chilling calm.
