Little Birds

Little Birds

“You’re off to great to great places. Today is your first day!
Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!” – Dr. Seuss

Little Birds

Little birds,
I love you.

Your beautiful beaks
are beyond description.

They light up the room
and melt the hearts of everyone in sight.

Little birds,
I love you.

It’s time for you to spread your wings
and leave the nest,
to learn how the world works,
to learn how the world exists
outside of your nest.

Little birds,
I love you.

You bring a smile to my heart
every
single
day.

When you spread your wings to fly,
my body stuffed joy
into hope
into love
into nostalgia
into delight
into promise
into cheer
into optimism
into melancholic despondency.

Little birds,
I love you.

I miss you already.
I miss your innocent ignorance.

When you leave the nest
you’ll start to learn the rest –
the rest of how the world works
and how the world exists.

You’ll teach that world something.
You’ll fly circles around this world.

Little birds,
I love you.
