MIKE HANSEN

I was born on December 26th of 1980. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago in an ordinary house, on an ordinary street, in an ordinary sub-division of an ordinary town.  I started writing early, maybe as therapy, maybe not. I always thought I would be a good artist. It turned out that I couldn’t draw.

I graduated from Purdue University in 2003 with a degree in Creative Writing and Film Studies. Let’s throw a minor in Communications for good measure. For the last 10 years I have been practicing the craft, whether it be poetry, scripts, blogging or novels.

You can find me on most social networks practicing anti-social behavior, yet welcoming you in with a warm heart. I have an incredibly beautiful wife, that I met at Purdue, and two kids with the best idiosyncrasies imaginable.

Please to enjoy.

SYNOPSIS

Dan Lemon is a man of routine who has unkowingly lost his way. One fateful afternoon at work, he is introduced to three criminals who take him hostage and shake up his schedule.

On the surface, it is a struggle with an obsession with time, after his time obsessed mother passes suddenly when he is 17-years-old. When we look inside, it is more about how he lost his faith in God and how he is suddenly confronted with that when the store he works at is robbed and his taken hostage. The antagonist, Norm, incessantly hounds him with life philosophies and what happens to people when they die.

Dan only has one choice, to confront his life’s fears, failings and wants. Is one day enough to change your life?

Excellent read. Gives your brain a good philosophical work out and many of us in middle age can identify with its protagonist, Dan Lemon…Great debut with quick, sharp dialog mixed with deep thinking and storytelling with a side of sweetness.

…There are some very deep passages that I found myself being very introspective, but also a nice balance of dick, fart and titty humor that pulled me back from the ledge! Great read, can’t wait for more!

…the characters’ philosophical battles and the author’s excellent writing are what really make this book.

The novel is a wonderful insight into Dan Lemon’s mind. By the end, you feel like you know this man and all of his quirks. You sympathize with him. You feel his pain. And that is commendable writing.
